“This body of work explores the territory above and below the surface of life.
Above the surface, where our lives manifest in different shapes, patterns, circumstances and agendas. Where we place divisions between each other; where we focus on our differences, rather than our similarities.
Below the surface, where layers of emotional, physical and psychological experiences directly influence how we view the world today. It is this area where the divisions between us fall away. Where the universal experiences of fear, loss, joy, hope, disappointment, and death bind us together in being human.
With this work I hope to create a moment for the viewer to reflect on the universal emotions and experiences we share. It is an invitation to look below the surface of life and consider the idea that we might share more similarities , than differences.
It poses the question of how we might practice more empathy with each other? How might our life experience be affected with more mutual understanding and compassion?”
