“Pass It On” is a visual mediation on how we, as a human family, are connected. Whether it’s across time, across borders, or just across town - I was thinking about how our lives cross, and how we’re intertwined. Additionally, I was considering the myriad of ways that we affect each other, influence each other, and interact with each other. Ultimately, this led me to contemplate the weight of responsibility this entails as a society, and as a human family.

“Lost Time” is an object that reflects upon the universal feeling of loss. Specifically, lives lost, and the impact that empty space creates for those people suffering the loss of someone they once cared for. With hundreds of thousands people dying worldwide of coronavirus, this garment is a potent symbol for me, visually representing profound loss.

“Maybe you are searching among the branches for what only appears in the roots.” ~ Rumi
For me, this quote touches upon our intimate contract with life. It’s about searching to find the meaning of our lives, and the ultimate desire to be at peace with our life experience.
Often, we search outside of ourselves for a sense of connection, to feel understood, for reassurance that we’re doing OK, and for a path to peace. What if all these things can only be found within… at the roots?
